What to do right now

A few calm minutes now saves a lot later. Then hand it to us.

  1. Blot spills right away. Press with a clean white towel from the outside in. Rubbing can fuzz the pile and spread the spot.
  2. Pet accidents: no peroxide sprays. Sprays with hydrogen peroxide or "oxy" on the label can bleach the dyes for good.
  3. Lift it off wet floors. If water got under a rug, get it up and flat somewhere dry. A wet rug on a wet floor can bleed dye and grow mildew.
  4. Don't machine-wash or hose it. Hand-knotted and silk rugs can shrink, bleed or lose their shape.
  5. Leave the fringe alone. Pulling or trimming loose fringe can unravel the rug's edge.
  6. Call or text us at 407-807-8528. A photo of the front and the back of the rug tells us a lot.

On site or at our shop

We clean area rugs two ways. Many everyday rugs can be cleaned right in your home along with the carpet. Others do better at our shop: we pick them up, clean them there and bring them back. The shop is usually the better choice for hand-knotted, heavily soiled or pet-damaged rugs, and for rugs that need to dry flat away from foot traffic.

Why rugs need their own care

A rug is not wall-to-wall carpet. Hand-knotted wool holds a surprising amount of fine grit at its base, which wears the fibers every time someone walks on it. Natural dyes can bleed if a rug gets too wet or is cleaned with the wrong product. Fringe is part of the rug's foundation, not decoration. We look at the fiber, the dyes, the backing and the fringe before choosing how to clean it.

Fine homes

Fine rugs are often the most valuable thing on the floor, and they get the most careful handling we offer.

  • Oriental and Persian rugs. Hand-knotted wool and natural dyes get a dye test, gentle cleaning and flat, even drying.
  • Silk and silk-blend rugs. Silk can lose its sheen, bleed or change shape if it is cleaned like wool. We test first and use the gentlest method that will clean it.
  • White-glove pickup and delivery. We roll and protect the rug, move furniture carefully, and lay it back where it belongs.
  • A quiet, uniformed, insured crew. We work around your household's schedule and leave the room as we found it.

Sun, moths and wear

Florida sun fades rugs near windows and sliding doors, and wool rugs in quiet rooms can attract moths. When we look at a rug, we check for thin spots, moth damage, loose fringe and edges that are starting to unravel, and we point them out before cleaning so you know what you have. Turning a rug every few months helps it fade and wear evenly.

Pet odor and urine

Pet urine soaks through a rug's foundation and can leave odor long after the spot looks clean. It also reacts with some dyes. At the shop we can flush urine out of the whole rug rather than treating the surface. Old damage can change a rug's color, and we tell you honestly what to expect before we start.

Rugs after water damage

If a rug was caught in a leak or a flood, get it off the wet floor as soon as it is safe to. Clean water and floodwater are different: rugs soaked by floodwater from outside need careful cleaning, and some cannot be saved. See water damage restoration for the house itself.

Pricing

Area rugs are priced on site or at pickup, because size, fiber and condition all matter. Ask for a quote on our pricing page, or call or text 407-807-8528.

How a rug cleaning goes

  1. Look and test

We check the fiber, dyes, backing and fringe, and test for colorfastness.

  2. Remove the grit

Dry soil and grit come out of the base first, so cleaning reaches what is deeper.

  3. Clean with the right method

On site for everyday rugs; at our shop for fine, heavily soiled or pet-damaged rugs.

  4. Dry flat and even

Drying flat and fast keeps the rug from shrinking, browning or bleeding.

  5. Groom and return

We groom the pile and fringe, then lay the rug back where it belongs.
